GROWING FORWARD · GUIDED LESSON
Name What I Feel
Feelings are messages. Learning their names makes it easier to understand what is happening and ask for what you need.
What to know
Feelings can be comfortable or uncomfortable, but having a feeling is not bad.
Your body may give clues: a tight stomach can mean worry; a hot face can come with anger or embarrassment; heavy shoulders can come with sadness.
More than one feeling can happen at the same time.
Try it
Try: I feel ___ because ___. Right now I need ___. If you cannot find the word, point to happy, sad, worried, angry, lonely, excited, embarrassed, or confused.
When to reach out
Tell a trusted adult when a feeling is too big to handle alone, lasts a long time, or makes you feel unsafe.
